People whose accounts were overdrawn and then closed, by them or by their financial institution, may be reported to ChexSystems as having a history of mishandling their account.

ChexSystems reports remain on file for five years and warn other financial institutions, and even potential employers, that you could be a credit risk. The decision to delete a report is entirely up to each financial institution and its individual policies.
