Your Towpath Credit Union MasterCard Debit Card works like a check and gives you the convenience of a credit card.

Credit vs. Debit - What's the Difference?

Credit - Your transaction will be processed through the MasterCard network and you will usually (except for pay-at-the-pump gasoline transactions) need to sign a receipt. You will not receive a bill for your transaction later, however. The funds will be deducted directly from your checking account.

Debit - Your transaction will be processed through the ATM network and you will be required to enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN). You will not have to sign a receipt. The funds will be deducted directly from your checking account.

Credit vs. Debit - What Should You Say?

Credit - Using your Towpath Credit Union MasterCard Debit Card as a credit transaction will save you money. As long as funds are available in your checking account, you will not incur any fees from this type of transaction.

Debit - Use your Towpath Credit Union MasterCard Debit Card as a debit transaction if you would like cash back at a merchant. Each time you use an ATM, it is a debit transaction. You may incur fees for this type of transaction. See your Debit Card disclosure statement for details.

For your protection, please note that Towpath Credit Union MasterCard Debit cards and ATM cards can no longer be used outside of the United States, Canada or Mexico. This decision was made due to a dramatic increase in fraudulent activity. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you are planning to travel outside of this area, we encourage you to use travelers’ checks. Travelers’ checks can be purchased at either of our branches.
