***FRAUD ALERT***
Thousands of Ohioans have been receiving messages via text, email, and voicemail stating their services were suspended,
followed by a phone number to call. The Ohio Credit Union League is urging recipients of these messages to not call this
number because it is a phishing scam. Instead, call your financial institution directly to report your receipt of the message
so they may alert the proper authorities and place a hold on your account if necessary. At present, there have been five unique
phishing scams purporting to be from credit unions in the past two days.
Phishing is a fraudulent attempt to try to access sensitive information by appearing as a trusted source. In this case,
the message appears to be sent by a credit union or financial institution asking you to contact them. The message is similar to the following:
Your Credit Union of Ohio services was suspended for suspicious activity, call us; and is followed by a long distance phone number.
Other credit union names and phone numbers have been used. Once the call is placed, an automatic message prompts the caller to enter their
credit or debit card information.
If you receive a one of these calls, here's what you should do:
Report the message to your financial institution to see if it warrants further action to protect their member.
Report receiving the message to your phone service provider.
Report the information directly to the FBI at www.ic3.gov for investigation.
Anyone who provided their personal information to the fraudsters should go immediately to the FTC's website at www.ftc.gov/idtheft and follow the steps provided to minimize their losses and help protect their good credit.
Towpath Credit Union is pleased to announce that we are now offering Stretch Pay,
a special loan program that will help members who need a small-dollar loan to carry them over until
their next regularly scheduled pay check.
Stretch Pay is designed to make it easy for members to obtain short term credit with one important
difference: a borrower must repay their entire outstanding balance (plus interest) before another
advance is permitted. A big advantage to the member is that the fees are much less than a traditional
pay-day lender and the loans help build a positive credit history.
Here’s how it works - Loans are limited to $250.00 with a $35.00 annual fee that is paid from
the first advance. The loan must be repaid within a 30 day period. At 18.00% APR* interest your 30 day
interest would only be $3.70.
StretchPay is a real loan that you can use over and over again. Once you pay off the loan, you
can use it again ... with no applications and no hassles!
Member Requirements:
•Must be 18 years of age or older
•Primary member on the account
•Must be a Towpath Credit Union member
for at least 60 days
•Positive balance on all accounts and
no delinquentcy on any loans with
Towpath Credit Union
•Has verifiable income for the last 6 months of $1,000 a month or more
•Not in process of filing bankruptcy
•Has not caused a loss at another

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT STUDENT H.E.L.P. PROGRAM.
Currently, funding for student loans through the CU Student H.E.L.P. program comes from Campus Door, a division of Lehman Brothers.
However, Campus Door has recently notified us that they will be terminating their contract with Charlie Mac effective Oct. 31, 2008.
As of that date, Campus Door no longer will process any applications; however, they will continue to fund all approved loans in their
pipeline until Jan. 31, 2009.
The search for a new partner for the CU Student H.E.L.P. program is in process. Charlie Mac, our partner in the CU Student H.E.L.P.
program, has successfully identified another source and negotiations have been very productive and promising. As details become available,
we certainly will pass them on to you. But please note, even though we are very hopeful a new partnership can be forged within the next
few months, there could be a slight disruption in the CU Student H.E.L.P. program as contracts are negotiated and executed.

CHECKING ACCOUNT REMINDER
Per REGULATION E, a Federal regulation governing all deposit and transaction accounts, automatic transfers from savings to checking are limited to six per month.
However, you can call us to transfer funds as many times as you like with no charge.
ATTENTION: MEMBERS
Some members have received emails from the National Credit Union Administration
(NCUA) and other organizations asking them to verify personal and account information.
Please do not reply to these emails. Delete them. NEVER share personal information.
It has also come to our attention that some people have received emails from
"service@akrontcu.com" and/or "security@akrontcu.com." These email accounts are
NOT valid. Do NOT respond to them. If we need updated information from you, we
will contact you directly by phone or regular mail. Treat all
unsolicited emails requesting financial or personal information as fraudulent.
*** New Scam Alert ***
Please be aware of a new email scam aimed at credit union members. The scam emails feature a subject line of
"Get your $50.00 Reward Survey with Credit Union National Association" and carry the America's Credit Unions logo.
The message begins with "Dear National Credit Union Administration Customer" and asks recipients
to answer five survey questions in exchange for a $50 credit to their account. Recipients are
instructed to click on a link and submit their account information supposedly in order for the
money to be deposited. However, they are now a victim of a phishing scam and their personal
account information is at risk for fraud and identity theft. Towpath Credit Union will NEVER ask for personal
information via email. This is completely separate from the member survey that was sent with the June statements.
DELETE ANY MESSAGES YOU RECEIVE THAT ASK FOR ANY ACCOUNT INFORMATION.
